An Open Letter to Sam and Leah

hey kids,

been pretty stagnant on the blog, but as I sit here on the couch as baby sister takes a nap, there are a few things I wanted to say:

Leah: You are You... but there is a certain joy in seeing some of the similarities that you and I have. Not just the fact that you look a lot more like me than sam ever did, but you seem to have a similar disposition. You are happy, and love people and love to smile. But also, you don't like being sick or having a toothache or anything like that. In fact, I think that (much like me) you are more aware of these things than the average person. If I was being laudatory I would say you are much more "in tune" with your physical self. But (if my experience with this is any indication) your mom will think you are being a bit of a ninny. Nevertheless, I love that about you.

also, I have taken to calling you baby sister and I know that the days when I call you that are numbered. I don't want you to be defined by your relationship with sam, nor by the very temporary status of being a baby.

Sam: It's sweet that you don't want santa to come inside our house. It's also sweet when you know you shouldn't get away with something but try anyway. It's fun to play with you, but not everything needs to be a firetruck. I like it when... well i like a bunch of stuff about you, boy, but your sister is waking up so I need to go get her.
